Growing or Going
What does my current spiritual condition look like? Often we can reflect on an experience we had from the past and try to use that for the present. Too often it doesn’t work and over and over sober folks feel stuck. There is lots of information in the head but little in the way of experiencing a new consciousness with God. Fear and current unmanageability as the result of the ego reemerging has taken place, and the addict or alcoholic is the last one to know.
Here is a thought: If you want to know what your current beliefs systems are, take a look at your current actions. While we may judge ourselves by our intentions, others are looking at our actions.
So we need our soul food daily, leading to transformational change as one experiences the constant pruning or the death of self for successful living.
Along with re-working the 12 steps (I do annually) there are some other pieces we can look at.
The spiritual law of Consistency.
How consistent am I with prayer and meditation? With regular contact with a sponsor and sponsoring others. Am I making meetings, writing inventory, making amends, and freely doing service for others?
Or do I fall victim to getting up, running for a while before losing steam and resting on my laurels? Am I still willing to go to any lengths?
The spiritual law of Accountability.
Who am I accountable to?
How honest am I when discussing myself to those (if any) that I am accountable to?
Do I take their directions and suggestions?
The spiritual law of Respsonsilbility.
Am I responsible or irresponsible in all areas of my life?
I call this my C.A.R.
How is my car running?
The fact is the many want the benifits of having the insights and peace that God can bring, but lack the courage, discipline and stamina to take the journey, and we settle on medicracy which means living with untreated alcoholism.
The soul wants to take the journey and yearns to be fed and be of service to others. To even empower others through service, but we ignore it. As someone once wrote many are not afraid of not having power they are afraid of having power.
